Tips for Enhancing Dream Recall
2018-03-25If you are having issues remembering your dreams, there are some things you can do to help your dream recall. I've listed a few of my ideas for you, below.
One of the most helpful choices you can make is to get enough sleep. When we are sleep deprived our bodies often drop off into a deeper state of relaxation where REM (rapid eye movement) rarely occurs, and without being in the REM state, you won't reach the dream state. ...And even if you do, you may not remember those dreams at all due to being so deeply relaxed.
I've noticed that in the conversations I have with those I teach and coach to remember, program, and understand their dreams, many only remember dreams that occur during weekends or on vacation. In this hurry up, high stress world, many don't feel they have the time to get plenty of rest but if you really want to experience your dream recall, try getting at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep. It's wonderful to wake up rested and to have the dream still clear and on your mind.
As I mentioned in another blog where I shared information about using a dream journal,
getting plenty of sunshine, drinking enough water each day and taking B vitamins (especially B6) can make a difference in recall and vividness. Vitamin D can also be helpful. Melatonin is another wonderful option for remembering dreams and for creating more vivid dreams... but be careful to keep the dose very low when you first try using melatonin. If you are already remembering your dreams they can become extremely vivid. Melatonin is made naturally in the body and it can supercharge your dream images and even induce Lucid dreaming. Those are the dreams that are so real it feels as if you are awake. And a special note to you: It's always wise to ask your physician for their advice as well. Your personal doctor knows you and can give you their thoughts and recommendations in your personal case.
Crystals can help with dream recall, too. Clear quartz crystals, amethyst, lepidolite and jade are my favorites. Some of my clients tell me Moon Stones are amazing for enhancing dreams. I've used them but I don't notice much of a difference. Remember, everyone is different, so don't get discouraged if you try a crystal and it doesn't seem to help. Just keep trying because your subconscious is noticing your intent to remember and you will eventually see a difference.
Essential Oils can be so helpful as well. Lavender is wonderful for relaxing in general and for many it helps create an atmosphere of peacefulness which can influence your dreams. I've had good luck with Lavender for peaceful dreams and good luck with Rosemary for memory.
These are just a few things that influence dreams and help us remember them. Practice makes perfect so try to pay attention to your dreams for several weeks in a row if possible. Dreaming well is a feedback system. The more you put into your dreams, the more you will get back from them.
Wishing you peaceful, joyful dreams,
